A student at the Technical University of Mombasa woke up to Ksh800,453 today.This happened after he had placed a bet of a mere Ksh500 on the popular betting site Betin Kenya.
Peter Maundu,a third year Engineering student said that he had not expected to get lucky but had carefully analysed the matches before he placed his bet.This was not his first time to win,he said,he had in the past won upto Ksh50,000.
Asked what he would do with his winnings,Peter says he plans to buy himself a Nissan Wingroad,which he has always dreamed of owning.He was very grateful to Betin Kenya for providing him and other young people a platform on which they could make some money given the level of unemployment in Kenya.
Sports betting in Kenya has been subject to different levels of criticism over the recent past,with many saying that it was unhealthy and a waste of time.However,as many people view sports betting as a budding societal menace,people like Peter who have virtually no means of making money,continue to reap the fruits of gambling.
Peter's story truly gives meaning to the saying that every dog has its day...or so he thinks as he begins shopping for his new car.
